That 2nd photo is very nice, nice spontaneous pose :). And I just know that cwphoto will get the urge to show off his f1.2 85mm again now!

I can see why the 85 f/1.8 has such a great reputation. Great shots Jamie - he's certainly growing up to be a handsome little guy!

Coldy, am I that predictable?:p

I love the lighting on number 3. Might make a good B&W?

My favorite is the second from last, very original expression, not something you
would find in most shots.

The 85 is quite a gem.

Great shots Jamie. He's adorable. Have you thought of setting up some lights and a backdrop and doing a shoot with him?

Very nice Jamie - "Ted, that lens is most excellent." - My theory on why this lens is sooo special is because it just so happens to provide the optimum DOF when shooting wide open at the distance most of us will choose to shot our subjects. . . ??? Just a theory.

Baby Blue steel rolled me! great shot!

Hah nice ones Jamie. Baby Blue Steel is my favorite by far. It says, "I know 2,346 ways to kill you with this toast." :D

I know the 85 is a good lens, but it goes to show any lens kicks arse in the right hands.

Thanks everyone!

CW: Black and White - now what button is that in that photoshop thingy?

Pete: No, I'd rather keep his clothes on for pics...:p Seriously, I have a 9 foot roll of white paper in my garage with a set of monolights, but I rarely have time to shoot out there. Last time was at Easter:

Andy: Your theory is possible, but when I first bought the lens I had quite a time adjusting to the razor thin DOF at f1.8 at headshot range. These days I prefer to shoot @ f5.6 when possible...Though the 30D has much better AF for the shallow DOF stuff than the crappy XT that you shoot with...:D

Don: That's too funny - I'll be sleeping in a toast proof vest tonight!

CW: Black and White - now what button is that in that photoshop thingy?

Not sure if that is a real question or not... but since it might be, here the answer:

Image/Adjustments/Channel mixer: turn on monochrome.
This gives you 3x8 bits or 3x16 bits of information to work with and to play with what amount each colour will contribute to the B+W, instead of the 8 bits of grey from Image/Mode/Grayscale.
