Here are some photos Taken on our Vacation by my wife with the FZ30, these photos are right out of the camera, only resized to save me some time and space.
There are 180 photos there if you have the time.

I will do some PP on the originals when I get the chance, but for now I am still busy sorting photos.

I should add both my wife and I are Point and shoot picture takers, with my wife carrying that to the extreme …she will touch no dials or settings.
The only buttons she touches are the on/off switch the shutter button and the zoom control.

The point of our photos are for our memories, and to show our friends and kids what we saw.

The point I am trying to make is, that for a simple camera that’s very easy to use, I am not sure any other camera can do better at all these various conditions.

There are landscape photos and photos of wildlife that are really wild, not in zoos or cages.

Is the noise a problem…not for us! But maybe for you.

Can these photos all be taken with another $500.00 camera….I do not think so! (all other FZ's excluded.)

I do have these photos taken with a D50 and a few lenses…that I think are as good but not much better.
They have as good a quality and no noise…..but are they worth 5 times the price?
I do not think so.

I can live with the noise that’s present, in exchange for the lack of fringing, excellent metering, accurate focusing and the convenience and price of the F30.

Is it a professional camera….I do not think so.

Is it a wonderful camera for someone that enjoys wildlife photos ….you bet it is!

Just my take on the excellent FZ30.

Considering she used her (your) FZ30 as a grab, point and shoot and didn't adjust settings or AF/Exposure at all, they're good indications of what can be done without much fine tuning of the settings. A few of them show the AF/exposure settings could have been locked on something other than the intended subject. But, in most of the landscapes, where it wasn't critical, her images were very good with some of them being really, really good to great.

Looks like you'll be well into the long winter months culling images and post processing...! Looking forward to a continuous number of threads with your results of both your wife's FZ30 and your D50 images...:)

Very nice shots. I know the fz30 has a great zoom but... even so... that's too close to those big black man eating bears for me. lol. I ESPECIALLY like picture 30. It's very nice. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome pics. We are wanting to go to the Canadian Rockies in the near future. You say you drove, what road?

My wife is also a point and shoot type, even to the point of taking bad photo's if I change the settings and forget to chane them back.

Well we come from the east so we enter Canada either at I 15 if coming from Yellowstone.(I stop at Yellowstone everytime I am within 500 miles or so.)
15 changes to something else in Canada but it heads toward Calgary and then to Banff. ( you are then in some beautiful country)
If you wish to go on to Alaska go from Banff to Jasper to Grand Prairie which is on the Alaskan Highway and on towards Alaska.

If you are coming from the west you would want to head to Prince George and then to the Alaska highway. Or there is another road up the west side of the mts.We came back that road.

I can look up the exact routes, if you need but the choice of roads is very limited in Canada. I really think there is only about 3 options to get to the Alaska Highway.
