I know the Raw vs. Jpg must have been covered before, but a search of this forum didn't yield me anything.

With the raw, I like the flexibility, but didn't I pay pretty good money to have a nice camera. I just got back from a trip with over 1,200 shots, I deep sixed about a third of them, but that's a hell of a lot of adjusting. I don't completely understand digital yet, but should raw usually be saved for _______? (What)

Any Mac users out there that have used Apeture? I was just joking about iPhoto (although it has a pretty broad range of adjustments). I have Photoshop (I use it for basic resizing, color change and filtering for ads, mailers and our website). I also bought Apeture to try it out. So I will have to learn both for layered imaging, and all of the advanced features.

If the images are important to you use RAW.

If you haven't got time to set the preferred white balance and colour space use RAW.

If you are photographing under difficult lighting conditions where you may need to pull detail out of shadows use RAW.

If you couldn't be bothered do any processing to your images later use JPEG.

If you can't handle 7-9MB files use JPEG.

Once you've got the handle on it, the RAW workflow doesn't take any longer than JPEG (in fact editing may become easier).

BTW, don't forget DPP or ZoomBrowser. Both those programs work really well with your 30D and you are able to use Picture Styles.

I highly recommend you pick up Bruce Fraser's Real World Camera Raw (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0321334094/qid=1151809492/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/002-4294951-6541665?s=books&v=glance&n=283155).

I'd love to play with Aperture. . . Maybe you should give RSP 2006 a try too. . . Once you understand RAW and set yourself up with a workflow that makes sense to you and delivers the results you want - its the way to shoot! [cough] Peter [cough]
