If it is disabled then it does not have that option. One way to find out if it will or wont work is tv out. Does it have tv out? usualy if it has that then it will work as a remote shooting camera or a USB camera/web cam.
Some just focus the features on picture improvement. Yours maybe like that

A700 has TV out. And TV out works just fine.

Weird i guess it does not support remote capture.
A700 remote capture (http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/canon/powershot_a700-review/)

While I couldn't find any information on Canon's website, I can't be sure of this information. But the A series is Canon's entry level line of cameras. They just aren't as feature rich as the G, S and SD series cameras. So it makes sense that the A700 wouldn't have the remote capture ability.

There are a few they do and dont do it with. My a60 and A70 did, and i got an A510 that would also.
IMO its not even worth it. The resolution is only 640X480 so you cant really see any more detail then you can with the LCD. I thought you could put it on full screen and see better detail then on the LCD but thats just not the case. The image appears in a small window like media player or somthing and you control everything from the mouse. It saves directly to the computer but i dont see any benifit of having it.
