View Full Version : Attaching UV Filter to PA-62

Just got my UV Filter 62mm after getting my PA-62 last week... I went to attach it to the PA-62 and it's very hard to thread. When I get it on, I can get it about one turn, but it is NOT snug against the adapter.
Is this normal? I tried a second filter and the same results, so if there is any problem, it might be the PA-62. I rubbed the grooves with my fingers to make sure nothing was in there, and the same result.
Help! :)

I also have the PA62 and when I tried to mount a 62mm rubber hood it too was very stiff. I did manage to get it on fully with a little force, but I guess a small amount of 3in1 oil, WD40 or fine grease may help prime the threads. I am only guessing with this and have not tried it. Maybe other users of the Pameraal adaptors can shed some light.

Your not the first to get bad threads on that adapter, I am sure they will exchange it. And I would not keep it ,what if you wanted to add a lense,
I would want it to thread all the way.

Emailed Peter and he suggested a little WD-40 on the threads (let it dry completely before attaching the filter...)
If this does not work, he'll replace when he gets more in. He offered the plastic adapter, but I prefer the metal for durability...

EXCELLENT Customer Service...
Peter sent me a replacement PA-62 and voila --- works perfectly.
I really recommend this adapter!

I guess it may have been a 2nd's you had firstly and now the replacement is a 1st quality.
Although I had a 2nd's and as I said earlier it worked fine :)

I don't understand why people don't ge the Phayee adapter. The quality is much higher, and it is like having two adapters (the 72mm tube screws on to the 62mm end). I have the PA-62 and there is no comparison. Don't know why you people are wasting your time and money.

FZ20knowitall,
I just think people like different things:)
I agree that the Phayee adaptor is good and maybe the quality control is better monitored producing a more uniform product, but I am sure it is more down to peoples purchasing styles.
Some people avoid anything from outside the USA, whilsts overs love a bargain on eBay, some like to touch it in a shop and others want it delivered next day, some love rubber, some like plastic and some even like heavy metal. All this leads to a varying responce to all cameras and accessories.

For a "FZ20KnowItAll", you know little.
From reports and links on this very site, the PA-62 was the most highly recommended. I'm glad you're happy with your chosen adapter, but lose the attitude.

I am not just happy with it, and I do have the PA-62. Everyone here knows about photography, and quality, which is why I said what I said. Because I know if you were in a store and were presented with the two adapters, you would choose the Phayee, it is simply a much better adapter. I was shooting with the PA-62 until someone urged me to get the Phayee so I did. I don't mean to be pushy. I just think that people that went out to buy the FZ20 have a certain sense of quality and features, and the Phayee adapter seems to be part of the camera. I really think Panasonic should include this adapter with the camera. And if you all want to go out and buy the PA-62 be my guest. Plus it was a real pain to shoot with the on camera flash, with the PA-62 I would get a shadow of it if I was zoomed all the way out. There is no shadow with the Phayee. I think this is how the camera (adapter) should have been made. I have the same problem with the Olympus. In order to keep my filter on to protect the lens, I needed to buy the adapter, which casts a shadow on the picture, so I have to shoot with an additional flash. I always wondered why Olympus would make an adapter that would overshadow a picture when the flash is used. Then I felt the same way about the Panasonic. But I thought, maybe they couldn't design it any other way. When I saw the design of the Phayee, I was simply delighted, now I just unscrew the additional 72mm tube and I can shoot, plus I have the filter on the camera. I guess I should just mind my own business and let people do what they want.

Not at all FZknowitall!
This forum is what it is because people give their honest opinion on cameras and accessories :)
If you feel that the Phayee is better then you are more than correct to shout about it :D
There are more and more new users to the forum each day and I am sure that they are happier to be presented with a number of solutions to any problem that has been highlighted or accessory that is needed. Choice is a wonderful thing, especialy when they have to use the camera and it is not you or I that is using it for them! We all just simple RECCOMMEND based on our experiences :)

Glad you feel that way Jim, and like you said, I was "recommending" the Phayee (quite strongly I know) only b/c I have both of the adapters and if people are going to spend their money, and time (being that the Phayee will be shipped from China and takes about 2 weeks) and the Pemaraal (PA-62) I think is out of stock, so you have to search for it (I may be wrong about this, though). And for people that are reading this that might not want to get something from China, let me tell you, it was so easy, and Rong Jin was so nice about the whole thing. I just went to paypal charged the amount to my credit card, and then just e-mailed Rong Jin saying that the order was paid for. Took less than 5 minutes for the whole thing. About 15 days after that my parts arrived (I bought 3 of the adapters and three lens caps). I think I have really killed this topic so if anyone else wants info please just send me a message.
I ordered the Phyaee based specifically on your recommendation FZ20KnowItAll...that and the 62mm price difference in filters from 72 is significantly lower.
Keep posting I say, that's what this place is for. Without out people like you and others here, where would I get my info...the store sales rep o.O http://www.punksbusted.com/forums/html/emoticons/helpsmilie.gif

I am glad that I could help, Anex. And please, when you get your adapter post your opinion about it, so that people don't start to think that I work for the company! Good luck, and enjoy it!

Nothing wrong with your opinion. It was the tone that bothered me.

I may be a little new to be commenting on this apparently "hot" topic but I haven't heard anybody talking about the silver Phayee adaptor...
I liked the look of the silver FZ-20 a little better so I ordered it. Then I found this site and heard all the glowing reviews of the Phayee so I ordered it in silver. I payed a little more for shipping and received it in 5 days.
The color match is EXACT, and even the texture looks identical...no one would ever know that there is an aftermarket adaptor on this camera!
Thanks for all the great info everyone...love the camera and am anxious to learn how to actually use it.

I felt that way with the black adapter. It seemed like this adapter was made specifically for the camera. I am glad to hear that the silver one is an exact match!

Sorry about the tone. After reading your post and the two that followed it, it just seemed like everyone was having problems with that adapter. I actually have some thin plastic pieces (shavings???) coming off of their ultra thin 62-55mm step down ring (for my TCON-17), but the ring works just fine. And I do want to say that I got incredible customer service at Peramaal. They called me at home, and left a message, when I called back there was no waiting time and I spoke to the same person who left me the message and he was really nice. There was a problem so I think he even gave me the shipping for free.
