hi guys. just found this site, found the forums, and had to post.

so, i'm in CA with my aunt for the month, but i'm leaving sunday. why does this matter? because just last night i was informed that she wanted to buy me a digital camera, or an ipod. [camera was chosen]

so i don't have a lot of time for researching. i'm a bit picky, and good quality is a must.

well, ergo, and reply if you can!

Budget

* What budget have you allocated for buying this camera? Please be as specific as possible.
--you know, i'm not really sure, but i'm saying they're willing to spend 100-200, and i'm willing to chip in 100.

Size

* What size camera are you looking for? Or does size not matter at all to you?
--compact would be great.

Features

How many megapixels will suffice for you?
--four's the lowest.

* What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x, Other - Specify)
--standard is dandy.

* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)
--eight.

Do you care for manual controls?
--a little, i'm not really savvy with that. point and shoot, mostly, but i like a little customizing.

General Usage

* What will you generally use the camera for?
--hammering nails.. well pictures of friends, mostly, i'm in high school, it's all i do.. and family pictures. like at christmas. and travel.

* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?
--8x10 at the biggest.

Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?
--indoor, for sure. low light, maybe.

Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
--chances are yes. i like to snap out a camera and take candids.

Miscellaneous

Are there particular brands you like or hate?
--i'll go for anything, as long as it's sturdy and dependable.

Are there particular models you already have in mind?
--no.

(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)
--wide angle i won't need.
--stabilization would be nice.
--weatherproof, don't care.
--hotshoe, not really appealing.
--rotating lcd isn't necessary.

and also, i drop things. constantly. durability's needed.

if there's anything i left out, or if there are questions, please do, as i will be needing to make a decision soon. thanks a bunch.

[heart] xoxo

i drop things. constantly. durability's needed.

Digicams can break easily if dropped. Maybe digicams aren't for you? For durability, there is an Olympus (720SW?) that is shock proof up to 5 foot drops. Otherwise, the best low price ones I can think of are:

Canon A430, A530, A610
Pana LS2, LZ3
Sony S500, W50

Also, some of the Casio's are nice. Instead of buying on impulse, you should wait and ask your Aunt to send you a check later for the gift after you've had time to shop at home and consider this more.
