After months of looking and just when I was about to buy the Canon SD200, I see the Sony DSC-L1. Does anyone know how the two compare regarding image quality. The Canon has a 2" LCD vs. the 1.5" of the Sony. Both have unlimited video at 30 frames per second. Sony takes the more expensive memory stick and both have expensive batteries. If anyone has seen a review please post a link.

I also limited my selection to either Canon SD200 or Sony DSC-L1 for their small size. Ultimately I bought the SD200 and have been happy with it.
Do remember, that the DSC-L1 has a step higher resolution than the SD200. However, this didn't matter much for me as I only take pictures for web and sometimes I print a 4x6 at a kios.

This is what my selection was based on:

I have owned Cannon S300 and have loved the camera,
Canon has optical viewfinder, which I use a lot to save battery,
Sony comes up with newer models almost once every month,
SD200 has faster response,
Flash is better on the SD200 for night shots,
& I have a lot of SD cards lying around in the house.

TCO was lower for the SD200, even with a 60x 256MB SD card ($32 from Fry's) compared to $70 for a MS Pro Duo 256MB.

Hope this helps.

The Sony has no manual ISO settings, no exposure compensation, and a flash roughly half as powerful.

And then there's buying a camera from a camera manufacturer.

For what it's worth!

A happy SD200 (and G6) owner.

Hi,

How do find the battery life of SD200? Do you think an additional battery will be sufficient?

Thanks

Honestly I've always used it for taking pictures when I'm out with friends and it's never for a long period of time. So I never needed to buy extra battery.
Anyhow, the charge is only 90 min from when the battery is completely empty to fully charged.
