I'm a new owner of an FZ7 having switched over from my old friend Olympus 740. Today while walking in the approach area of our airport and snapping pictures with the new camera I was lucky enough to stumble into a take off of a fairly rare aircraft and for a couple of sudden snap shots, they came out pretty well. After only a week I'm getting more comfortable with the FZ7, it seems just a matter of using it, experimenting and using it some more.

Rare indeed, that is a super guppy. NASA uses them from time to time. I liked the contrails on the propeller tips.

I've seen that type of aircraft at the Santa Barbara airport, but it was a long time ago now. Nice photos, especially the second one with the prop contrails!

Well now there's only one left -Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Guppy)- "Only one Super Guppy remains in service: an SGT flown by NASA" so you may have seen the same one.

Also, I'm willing to bet that the plane you saw was carrying parts for the resupply mission for the ISS scheduled for Saturday. Awesome shots.

Actually she was carrying fuselages for the Boeing V-22 Osprey which is built close by here in Pa. They are then flown to Texas for final assembly. I believe she comes to town once a month to ferry aircraft to the Lone Star State. NASA still has the two remaining original Super Guppys.
