I've had it for about 3 weeks, I'd say. It's worked great. I'm using 4 AA, Energizer 2500MAH 15min rechargables..
The camera worked fine earlier today, but now it wont turn on. It acts like there are no batteries in it and that it's simply.. DEAD. Anyone had this issues? Ideas?
argh.
EDIT: I futzed around for about an hour before making this post. Rechecking all the simple things... nothing. I got mad, and jiggled/shook it a bit.. and now it works.. WTF?!

dropped? (Yikes!)
1) Take the battieries out for an extended period of time (to allow discharge) like 20 minutes... and then put fresh AAs back in, not the rechargeables, just to be sure.
2) Does this camera operate on an AC adapter, also? You know, like for studio work?
3) Is the SD card fully inserted in its slot?
4) "IS" drains battery power... was the camera left on?
Here's a link to some battery issues with the S2... more or less the same idea:

That's it from my side. Please post resolution when you find out what it is. Thanks. ;)

I will copy/paste the edit I made to the post.. "EDIT: I futzed around for about an hour before making this post. Rechecking all the simple things... nothing. I got mad, and jiggled/shook it a bit.. and now it works.. WTF?!"
The batteries were not the problem. They were fully charged and were checked. As stated in the edit, I checked and rechecked all the "simple" things it could have been.
I dont have the AC adapter, so I cant tell ya.
No, the CF card is not in at all, because the S3IS takes SD cards. But the SD card was fully in.
Nope, the camera was not left on.
The resolution was shaking the camera out of frustration and it worked. Upon further inspection, the inside of the battery door has a bit of play -- perhaps iit wasnt the way it liked to be.. who knows.
Make sure the contacts on the camera and the battery are clean. These new cameras seem to be pretty picky on power, and any amount of dirt seems to cause problems.

Push on the memory door or the battery door. There are little switches on these 2 doors that detect when they are open and closed. One of these 2 switches could be just a little out of alignment and pushing or pulling on them a little may kick the camera off indicating they are faulty.
They are there to turn the power off so you dont remove the card while its on and reading or writing. I think they are designed to power down quickly rather then just power loss to the processor that could corrupt data.
The tabs that depress the switches could be bent or missaligned also.
Ive seen this a few times on other cameras, they usualy use another arm to actualy depress the switch. The door has a little tab sticking out, then it pushes a little flap and the flap pushes on the switch. Usualy the little flap is the issue, its warped or has a bump in it that was missed at the factory or has since worked lose.
Seems ironic that a little flap can screw the whole camera up but it happens. It maynot be your case but its somthing to check into.
Mine acted like that one time. It turned out to be the lock slide on the battery door was only half way closed. The battery door was closed tight but the little slide was in the middle of its travel. When I closed it all the way it worked perfect.

Actually, my S2 did this once now that I think about it, and it was because I hadn't closed the sd card door 100%. It was shut, but it wasn't slid all the way back....

Would be a waste of time to send it back if its just a silly little issue like that.
I can see the reason they add these but it can also cause problems that most users dont realize whats wrong.
The slider thing on the batery door is actualy the little lever that pushes on the switch too, so make sure they are all tightly closed.
