For a small discussion...
I've always done my post-processing with Photoshop and left the camera's parameters set to "Parameter 1".
On the EOS 20D, in the menu, "Parameters"
Do processing parameters "Set 1, 2, 3" affect the image transferred from the camera to your archives? In other words... what image gets transferred... the actual or the "custom processed" one?
AM I being clear... or do I need to push my sharpness a little.
When you shoot RAW, all the settings in the camera are applied but can be reset to zero or set the other way when you handle the raw image. In other words:
Camera takes RAW photo
On your computer, the settings (parameters) are applied
You then look at the picture and might apply different settings.
With RAW, the parameters are advisory not compulsory. They only become compulsory on JPEGs and TIFFs.

Camera parameters are NOT applied if you do not use DPP (or ZoomBrowser I believe). If you use a third party, no settings are applied except what the software itself is set to apply as default.
In other words, RawShooter doesn't care what your camera settings were when you took the shot, wheras DPP and ZoomBrowser do.

where it does come into play is when pushing out a "jpg" shot... not a RAW. RAW simply will modify as directed by the software. JPG shots where settings are altered are modified "as software" would.

Yeah except I think both bundled softwares (DPP for sure) can apply the parameters to your RAW if you want.

No, you are not being clear. And yes, the parameters you set are applied to the image before it is stored to the CF card as jpeg. So, what you set is what you get.
Also, when you open your JPEGs in PS, and you will play with levels/curves/colour adjuctments/contrast, remember to first set the image depth to 16 bits per channel, it will give room and will prevent clipping that otherwise will happen when you do a few changes to the picture in succession.

I feel this information is good to know, as it is not clearly explained in the Canon EOS 20D Instruction Manual. Just a brief explanation (page 57,58) of how to and where the controls are, but the explanatory whys and other ramifications are left out.
