Hello!

My poor old Canon Powershot A5 Zoom was still its job quite nicely but last week it seems to have died quietly in its sleep :( It just won't do anything which makes me suspect the power supply.
Does anyone know whether canon digital cameras have a small battery somewhere, like the analogs do, that powers the clock and such?

I just wonder whether it's worth taking it to be serviced or if I'll be wasting time and money by doing that. The camera is quite old (about 5 years, I think), but it was still doing fine for many things, and it's a bad time for me financially to be looking for a replacement.

Thanks for any tips!

I suspect there could well be. I notice mine keeps the time even when the batteries are out. My Nikons don't do that!

In the instruction manual of my A95, they say that inside the camera there is a small li-on battery to keep the date and time, as well as my saved settings.

The battery takes 2 hours to fully recharge from the moment you put your normal batteries in and if the camera is left without batteries for 3 weeks, then its very likely that you lost all saved settings and that u will have to charge the battery from scratch.

Thanks! After looking for a while for the battery, and for the manual so I could find the battery, I finally found both and changed the little battery for a new one. But the camera's still not coming to life :(

Interesting about the 3 weeks thing... and that it's rechargeable (it's not on the A5, apparently). ...at the moment I'd be happy to just lose my settings... but oh well...

Thanks to both!! :)
