A520 Lens did not retract fully

On my sisters A520 the lens is stuck in an almost fully retracted positon but it is not fully retracted and this is causing the camera to not turn on and off properly. The light and the screen turn on but lens is stuck in this positon and doesn't move at all. Is there anything she can try? I told her to call canon, but who knows if she will actually do it.

First used rechargable NiMH batteries. 2500s or somthing similar. Use fully charged batteries first. If it still wont work try and tap on the front of the lens as you push the power button on and off.

Alkalines just dont have the power that the rechargable NiMH batteries do. Even though the tv tells us they are the best, rechargable have more power for a longer duration then any alkaline.
