So this is how my Saturday started;
Just your typical day,
I was taking my 350D out to play around before I went to a 4yr old cousins birthday.
Aim 350D + Tamron 28-75 at a nearby clock, press shutter release, ka-thunk.....
thats not the right sound...
the screen is flashing "error 99" "error 99" "error 99"....
I try my 70-200 f/4 only to find the same results, after I hit the on/off switch, I aim, focus, but nothing shows up in the viewfinder display, press the shutter release, camera clicks, the screen comes up flashing "error 99" "error 99" "error 99"....
I remove the battery and try again, this time the camera works and info is displayed in the viewfinder, I start shooting just to be safe, 5 shots in, "error 99"
I try cleaning the contact points for the lens, the contact point for the body, the battery, everything I could clean (except the sensor) I cleaned, twice!
The most I get on each removal of the battery is 5 shots. I try a combination of everything, the only thing that even gets my camera to somewhat work again is removing and reinstalling the battery. The most I can get out of that repetition is 5 shots.
I called Canon tech support and they just told me to ship it back to them, we ran over a 30 second troubleshoot about cleaning the contact point for the lens. In the end he just gave me the number and address for the Canon repair facility down south in L.A.
My big problem is the cameras out of warranty. I bought it overseas 6 months ago. Technically its been less than a year but it was purchased outside the US.
....Im so happy....
[/ end Sarcasm]
Im not going to flip out and jump ship to another company or anything, I still love the camera minus the malfunctioning part. I did a search and this error 99 seems to pop up on 10D's, 300D's, 350D's, and occasionaly the 20D. Anybody ever encounter a problem similar to this?
Im shipping the camera on Monday, lets see what Canon finds in their evaluation.
