We had a A620 camera get dropped, and our SD 256MB memory card says memory card error in the camera, and the drive hooked to our computer won't read it. We can insert another card into the camera and it works fine. Any ideas?

Did you try reformatting the card.

Does another card work in your camera? The problem may be in the camera after you dropped it, not the memory card.

Storage devices like CDs, hard drives, memory, floppy disks what ever have 2 sections. The first is the leader, or the info section. This section is small and it tells the user whats on the storage and other info. The second section is the actual storage that holds all the files.

I think what it does is first it stores the image then it writes or adds to the info section. It may rewrite the whole info strip adding the new image but im not positive.

What could of happened is when the camera was dropped it had already writen the large file and as it was trying to add the image to the info is got scrambeled. This i think can cause an error as the camera cant read the info and is just lost on whats on the memory card.

I think formatting the memory can help, maybe even try using another device to format it then reformat it in your camera.

I have some cheap memory that has a problem and once in a while it will hickup like this. It could be the memory card also is just junk.

Since there is 2 sections they both kinda work together. The files can still be good though, but with no leader the info can get mixed up or confused by the reader. I think files can still be pulled from a storage that is damaged it just needs to be done a different way if the files are not reconized, like if its a RAW, .jpg, .MP3 that what the leader does.

Hope some one finds this useful
