Hi everyone ~
I'm new to the forum. I found the site looking for some ideas for a new digital camera. I'm debating if I should purchase a new one or have mine repaired.

I have an Olympus C-4040Zoom. It has been a great digital camera up to this point. Yesterday, I tried to turn it on and it would not power up. If it were the battery, it would have turned on and given me an error message. I called Olympus and their best guess is that a part that is the size of a pencil eraser broke (can't remember what they called it!) and that sucks out the juice from the batteries.

Question ... Is it worth fixing? No one is able to give me an estimate of how much it would cost. Plus, I miss it already! Having kids, I've become very dependent upon it.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
:)

Should you fix it? Hmm, depends on what your budget might be if you replace it. Also, where there features you wish it had that are available elsewhere? 4MP is a fairly entry level resolution these days. That said the C4040-Z and the rest of the Cx0x0-Z series were always ver good cameras. You will probably need to spend ~$3-400 to replace it with something that you like better. So it might be worth ~$200 to repair it. I can't tell you what makes sense for you.

These days most cameras have quicker shutter response so with kids that might be an improvement. You don't say how old the kids are, but when they get into team sports you will likely want a longer zoom lens. The Panasonics with 12x and image stabilization are all excellent kid cameras and will run $300-600 depending on resolution mainly.
