If someone offered you a 10D or a D50 which would you take and why?

The D50 for weight, a little faster operation all in all, USB 2.0, more accurate performance with 3rd party lenses, a bit better image quality in JPEG, better (bigger) LCD.
The 10D for Canon's lens line-up, more complete software package, better user interface, better feel to it, more features.
Not the D50 for its tendency to produce moire artifacts.
Not the 10D for that you do not know its age, how many photos have been made with it. And remember, it does not take EF-S lenses.

I would take either one and enjoy it as a free camera. :)

take whichever that can fetch higher resale value. Then sell it off and get a 350d, 30d or a d200. ;)

Both are nice cameras, just be sure to choose based on the lenses you want though, as bodies don't matter as much.
I have a D50, so I'm biased :D I have yet to see moire though in my 7 months with my D50. The 70 was more prone to it.

I'd go for the D50 on the basis that the AF is better.

I haven't used Canons enough to really judge their AF system, but I've never had any issues with my D50's AF at all, come to think of it.

I understand the XT's focussing is a ton better than the 10D but doesn't the D50 come with an AF assist? It's the focussing that I'm more concerned with. In terms of image quality, the XT is pretty darned good.

Yeah, it has an assist (not in the flash). The XT is definitely top-notch image-wise.

Isnt the 10D in the same generation as the D70 which was replaced by the newer D70s and that the D50 is just a crippled version of the D70s?
Ergo, the D50 is newer and more advanced than the 10D albeit somewhat crippled yes?
