I was relaxing with my nephew watching TV when I noticed the smell of a short...ie that typical electrical fire smell. Not wanting to take any chances I got my nephew out and moved my bag of tricks, computer, and backup photo CDs into my van. Then the local fire department was called in just to be sure it wasn't in the walls.

Fortunately it was just a bum AC that went bad and smoked up the house.

I love Mondays.

Wow, that's scary! I'm certainly glad everyone's o.k.

Well, you're not going to believe this, but it is true...

You know how everything goes wrong at once? Well last Monday:

My hard disk died (had to repartition the disk and reinstall all my apps...but I back up everything, so no data loss)
My printer died (Canon just sent a new print head)
My blender broke (one of the blades snapped off, hit the side of the vessel and sent a chunk of glass flying past my head)
My vacuum cleaner broke (fixed it myself)
The handle on my microwave broke (repairman coming Wednesday...has to replace the entire door)
My convertible top broke (still in the shop)

That's some bad karma, right?

So...I JUST LOVE BLANKING MONDAYS!!!

Yeah it turned out to be nothing but even so when you can't figure out where it's coming from and it smells like it's in the walls....makes you sorta think the worst.

We pay through property taxes. lol.

Funny, thought the same yesterday.

Pushed it last night just so we'de have an outing more than 10 minutes around the neighborhood. Went to the beach for a night walk with my little girl just before sunset.

Lost the keys in the sand (I presume), forgot the cell phone so borrowed a stranger's to call the wife, she couldn't find the spare, then 2 hours of searching turned up nothing.

Upon arrival home thought "shoulda just stayed home ...".

At least the walk was rewarding and fun.

Hey, beats thinking the house was going to burn down!

CDI: Glad your city doesn't make you pay. Here in OC, it would have cost $600 for a false alarm. Heck, even for a real alarm they charge.

To echo JTL, glad you're all OK. Glad your priorities are straight too (first the kid, then your stuff .... then get yourself off to saftey).

Maybe it's time to take a full backup to your sisters.

The exact same thought crossed my mind. . . :D

There are few counties in MO where EMTS, Fire, etc etc will charge the person responsible for the use of their services, for example - car accident requiring the fire rescue team - for the use of their jaws of life, fire rescue EMT, vehicular fluid clean up - etc etc - will charge the person found to be the cause of the accident. . . Its not cheap either - something around the ball park of what Vich mentioned.

Both of our fire departments are all-volunteer and the borough/township funds the operations themselves, along with the occasional fundraiser they put out. It's pretty affordable that way since there aren't a hundred salaries added to the budget.

closest thing that happened here was when i moved into a house with crap wiring - plugged something in at one end and at the other end the outlet burned a hole in the bedding. i still don't get it, was the outlet shooting out sparks when that happens?

had no idea!

JTL: that's one heck of day! glad nothing worse happened

Hey Don,

If you're still bored....:D

The fire departments up around here occasionally have weekend muster competitions between towns. The idea is timed races between town departments to connect hoses, lay them out and let loose with the water to hit a target. Last year I photographed the one in our town and put together a slideshow with some "good ole' boy" country music for backing. I presented it to the local fire department and the the local cable access channel as a freebie. The fire guys loved it and the local access channel played it for several weeks. I had a great time doing it (almost got a dowsing from the hoses), met a bunch of new people, and best of all got my name out there as a local photographer.

If you got something going on down where you live that's similiar with the fire departments, maybe it would a good way to show thanks for showing up at your place when needed and promote yourself at the same time.

Mark.......
