To date I have resisted considering cameras that use anything besides AA NiMHs. The TZ1 is very tempting, however, and I have nearly succumbed, but before I do I have a question to ask about charging its battery.

One of the neat things about NiMHs is the ability to fast charge them and then just leave them in the charger on a trickle charge with no negative effects. After reading a few of articles about charging lithium cells, however, I've learned that you can't trickle charge them and it hurts them to leave them on full charge.

So, the question about the TZ1 battery and charger is does the charger somehow turn itself off after the battery reaches full charge? Put another way, can you leave the battery in the charger after it's fully charged without ill effects? The owners manual says "always remove the battery after use" (I assume this refers to charging), but will a few hours of forgetfulness ruin a fairly expensive battery?

I've done it a couple times with no (visible) effects thus far. They can't expect you to sit in front of the green light and wait for it to go off so my guess is there's a little grace period in which the battery can be left in. At least I hope so ;) .
