Are there any GOOD digital SLRs that are made by companies other than Japanese ones???
I believe that the only recent non-Japanese DSLRs were the Kodak DCS Pro SLR/n and DCS Pro SLR/c. Both have been discountinued, but you can still find them online. Support for existing customers who own these models will be dropped completely in 2008.
Just out of curiosity, why are you looking for a non-Japanese product?

Leica R9 with DMR.
Now that's obscure!
Not like you can go and try one out at your local camera store or shop online for the best price! :p
You'd get access to great lenses (if you have a Swiss bank account), but, as a (D)SLR body...it's strictly "Model T"...

Samsung is a Korean company. They have just entered the dSLR market. Of course their first two products are both direct copies (under license) of the Japanese Pentax versions.

That Model T is arguably one of the finest SLRs you can buy. A real SLR IMO, one that does both film and digital - ingenious.
Take a look at some of Guy Mancuso's posts over at Fred Miranda - he gave up a 1Ds Mark II for a pair of R9s...

was wondering the same as well
Seems fair enough to me. He makes a point that 90% of the world's electronics etc all come from or are designed in Japan.

But It lacks things that most people have come to expect in a super-high end DSLR like AF, and TTL flash...those things wouldn't bother me, cause I was shooting before such things existed....

I have to admit that this would have been an exiciting camera 10 years ago. Hopefully the cameras are better than the web-site.
Any idea of the cost for this rig?

I just looked, around nine grand for the slr and digital back. Yikes!
LOL, my eyes aren't that good to MF all the time, but at that price I'd get a 1Ds MII and take it out in the rain just because and still have an extra 2 grand left.
Or if you really wanted to blow some loot, why not a Hassy digital back.

Exactly! I'm thinking that even the 5D would be very competitive. But I guess if you want to impress your muggers... along with your Rolex.

Nothing impresses a mugger more than a .44 or .4570 fired in their direction :D
