My best friends nameday is coming up. I was trying to think of what to give her for it. She and I made a lot of nice photos last year, also in the zoo, where we made a lot of owl photos. She loves owls... so I thought it would be nice to give her some good prints of some owl photos, that would be decorative too.
Since owls have such intense eyes, I thought it would be a nice idea to make the photos bland and white, and just leave their eyes in colour to accentuate their amazing gazes... This is the result, although you really should she the prints because the prints look a lot better than what you see on your screen.

The 1st pic is of a Bubo Bubo (Oehoe in Dutch, Uhu in German, Eurasian eagle owl according to americans). The 2nd pic, I am not sure on the moment what kind of owl they are. The 3rd pic of course is a snow owl.

In orthodox christian countries liek Russia, Greece, Romania, and in predomintly catholic countries like France, and probably Spain, they have a saint connected to most days of the year. To these saints names are associated, and when your name is assoiciated to the saint of a day, that day is your nameday. Some countries do not celebrate birthdays, only namedays. In Greece both get celebrated (yay, presents twice a year!).

Nice to see someone else celebrating name day too - we do it here in Sweden as well. :) May I ask what country you are from, Coldrain?

Nice images, coldrain - I like the 2nd one the best. What is the real color of the speckled variety? Oh, the third one, white owl, looks like it's "giving the finger." :D

those are great! I really like the the second one. Something about the pair of them in tree..one slightly behind the other. With the eyes highlighted like that it feels they are not just staring at me...but right through me.

Coldy - do it good and get them printed on some nice thick fibre-base B&W paper.

Oops, forgot the coloured eyes. Oh well, you could always hand-colour (now there's a dying art-form).

Wesan, I am from the Netherlands, and we do not have namedays. My friend is from Greece, and there they do have namedays.

CW, I wanted the eyes and rest of the photo to be shiney and glossy, so I just had good colour prints made.

Some varried pics I made the past week or so, just trying things.

Here you can see its colour... dark brown and white-ish specks.
