i'm sure there are already a few threads on this...and i did some searching and didn't find anything useful, but here goes.
i have a 70-200 f/4L and i'm getting a 2x II extender to use with it.
i have a feeling it will disappoint me, but for the price, i couldn't resist.
anyway, my question is, has anyone in here used it with the 70-200 f/4L or any other lens?...and will this bring good results or will i find myself reselling it on ebay two weeks from now?
thanks in advance.

The 2X extender won't AF with anything but a 1 series body with 70-200 F4L.

No it's not.
F5.6 or brighter required, Extender 2x lowers apature by 2 stops, making your 70-200 F4 a 70-200 F8.

Get a Soligor 1.7x C/D 4 AF teleconvertor instead. It is a lot cheaper (150 euros if you order it from Soligor in Germany including shipping/postage), it will allow AF to work (fine I might add... outdoors it focussed correctly even in cloudy weather), and it will not degrade image quality much at all (I am still unable to see any real degradation).
And 1.7x is a lot more magnification wise than Canon's 1.4x extender, it costs still considerably less, and it will in my opinion even perform better optically.
Just google for it and an English page should come up, with details on how to order it.

well, autofocus isn't that big of a deal when it comes to that kind of a magnification to me. i really don't mind focusing myself. i guess what i really wanna know is how much clarity will i lose from 140 to 400mm with the extender. just wondering.

It's certainly a compromise, but by no means unuseable - just don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.
To give it the best shot, you should really close down at least one stop to give it a fighting chance. Unfortunately this means you'll be at f/11. You will also need to be at around 1/750s (at the 200mm end) to be able to hand-hold effectively, so ISO 400 is going to be an absolute minimum - and that's assuming perfect sun.
Good luck.:)

What do you think, focusing screen?
My 20D is almost torture to manually focus with, depending on the subject. It has nothing to measure with, other than your eyeball. I can't see (pardon the pun) that the 30D would be any better.
Any thoughts? I'm sure there are plenty... LOL :p

Yeah manually focusing is a bit of an issue...
