hoya filters glass or plastic?

I'm looking at a couple of UV filters from uniquephoto.com, and they list some hoya filters around 12 bux. Granted, these probably aren't the best of quality but I was wondering if they were at least glass. Anyone know? :D

Why do you want UV filters? DO you have any UV that needs to be filtered?
And be careful with obsure online camera shops
And yes, of course they are glass.
And no, you do not need UV filters on lenses. Most of the time.

If you are trying to proctect your lens then a UV filter will work just fine. A lot of people do so! Check well know sites like BHPhoto...Adorama ect. and check pricing on the exact same filter!

Hoya is a good filter maker and their filters are glass. Look for Hoya HMC or SHMC filters. Don't get just plain. It's debatable as to whether their digital coated filters are better or just expensive. The jury is still out on that one.

There are digital coated UV filters? I can see the whole digital coating thing being on the rear element to prevent reflection from the sensor, but is it a concern having light bounce all the way from the sensor to the front element then back again?

To the OP: UV shouldn't be a big concern at sea level, but of course protecting your front element is. Have heard Hoya is a respectable brand.

Just remember any extra glass between the lens and the subject is only going to decrease the quality of your images...

Ie Your lens may be well coated to reduce flare, but if I put a cheap UV filter in front of it you may add flare, ghosting, reduced resolution..

So just keep in mind if you have decent lenses, don't put crap filters on them to downgrade the lens...

Or better still don't use UV filters at all ;-)
