I bought a Kodak V603 and am trying to decide on whether i'm going to take it back or not.

The problem is, I have recorded numerous videos on a standard 256mb Sandisk memory card and am experiencing a lot of errors. All the videos will play fine on the camera. After I transfer them to my PC some videos play very slowly, try to freeze up and with very glitchy sound and visuals. Some of the videos wouldn't transfer at all. I think even a few pictures wouldn't transfer. Also, I get a message that'll pop up sometimes on the camera LCD screen saying 'unrecognizable format' when trying to review the pictures just taken. If we turn the camera off and back on it will show all the pictures w/o error messages.

My parents have a Kodak DX6490(older) camera that takes videos as well(I think at 60fps though) and I have taken hundreds of videos with it and transfered them to my PC without a single error. Never had a picture that wouldn't transfer and they all played flawlessly.

The question is, could this be because i'm not using a 'high speed' memory card? Kodak recommends using a high speed card with the V603, but the ppl at the store told me any card would work. And even though the standard card works to a degree, I want it to work flawlessly for my $300+.

Do you guys think I just need a high speed card or is there something wrong with the camera?

BTW, I have already viewed this thread:

but needed a little more info, if available.

I would really appreciate any help!

I take 640x480 30fps video on my SD300 with a regular Sandisk card. With the codecs they use, the file size is larger than yours, so I don't think card speed is the problem.

I suspect the problem is your computer. You may need a better video card. If you can post a sample video somewhere some of us can run it on our machines we can verify that.

AFAIK the Canons are the only ones that have 60fps. I don't think any older cameras have that mode.

Greetings.... I using in my Canon Transcend Hight Speed card already over 1.5 years. And I haven't problems with that. I think Hight Speed is better

reformatting you memory card might help. if your camera has a "low level format" option, definitely try that.
