I have a Sigma 70-300mm for my Nikon D50 that I like (except for the aperture). I need a tele or zoom in the f/2.8 range. I was planning on buying a used Nikkor 180mm f/2.8 for about $325, but someone suggested I get the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8. It runs about $700. It duplicates a lot of the range of my 70-300m, but would give me much more flexibility all in the f/2.8 range.

Does anyone own this lens? Is it high quality? Any comments or thoughts are appreciated.

I do not own the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8... yet, but it is on my short list. I know that a couple of members here have been shooting the Sigma with great success.

As a starting point this might help:

Thanks George. I haven't heard from others yet, but I think this could be very appealing. If I take the plunge, I'll let you know what I think.

Sigma 70-200/2,8 is excelent lens and 120-300/2,8 is another one. My friend use them on his EOS 5D and he usually carries two bodyes at the same time, one body with Canon 24-70/2,8 and another one with 120-300/2,8 or 70-200/2,8. He has Canon 24-70/2,8 and a bunch of primes, from wide to telle side, but for tele range zoom he is using Sigmas.
