I knew the risks involved, but thought that I had picked a good seller to do business with.

I guess I had a false sense of security because I had purchased SanDisk Ultra II CF cards before on eBay that were genuine, so I thought it would have been the same with SD cards, but I was wrong.

I guess SD cards are easier to counterfeit than CF cards. I purchased two 2GB SanDisk Ultra II SD cards, or what I thought were real.

In my card reader, their properties come up as having a generic manufacturer, rather than SanDisk. Also, the transfer rates are only 4-5MB/sec in HDBENCH, vs the supposed 9-10MB/sec.

Another problem is with lost shots, and sometimes causing memory card errors.

I knew the associated risks, but thought these would be the real deal. They even came in real SanDisk retail packaging.

How do I know they are fake?

Your Question/Problem:
Hello, I would like to know how I can verify that what I have purchased on eBay is a genuine SanDisk product. My items Serial Numbers are DAA2443217 and DAA2443243.

They came in retail packaging, and have a round, silver holographic sticker on the back, with "WORLDLINK SCIENCE 05A" around the outside of the sticker, with what looks to be Chinese writing in the middle area, as well, it has the serial number printed in small black on the bottom portion of the sticker. Also, the cards have "ASS0604DH" with "CHINA" below in white lettering on the back of the card.

When I insert the cards into my notebook computer's built-in card reader (HP), the name of the device shows up as "ASSD", is this correct?

I am hoping you can help me verify that these are genuine SanDisk products, to put my mind at ease.

Thank you!

Hello Ryan,

Thank you for contacting SanDisk Technical Support, and for your recent inquiry into our product line.

We do apologize for the inconvenience regarding your Ultra® II SD™.

The serial numbers that you have provided appears to be invalid. The valid serial number usually starts with 2 letters like AX,AK,AR,BB then followed by numbers etc. Some may require to use magnifying glass to locate it on the device

Should you have any further inquiries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us via Email or telephone at 866-726-3475..

Best regards,
Dominic D.

So, there you have it. From now on, I will stick to purchasing only things on eBay that cannot be easily counterfeited, like diecast model cars, and things like that.

I might not necessarily purchase more Ultra IIs in the store, as they're quite pricey, but I will certainly not buy them on eBay again.

Regards.

This is the problem with ebay. My wife wanted me to sell the stuff earmarked for the garage sale on ebay but to be quite honest although we'd get a ton more there are so many hassles (whose check has cleared, who's paid and who hasn't, packaging, over and underestimating postage, paypal fees, potential fraud due to paypal/credit cards etc) I just don't feel selling on ebay is at all worthwhile. As far as buying on ebay is concerned, my wife buys a lot and finds that a fair percentage of the purchases are problematic. One was a cup and saucer that was documented as delivered was never found despite an intensive search. Another couple of things were described as perfect but were nowhere near perfect (plate with chips missing, wooden spoon with the end broken off etc). Then there are the items that arrive broken due to incompetent packaging.

I'd love to sell my 17-35 Tamron lens but am lacking a decent place to sell it for a decent price.

Did you leave the eBay seller a negative Feedback? By doing this, you can warn others not to buy from this guy ;) Plus, did you read the Feedback's he got from other buyers? I usually don't buy from a seller in eBay with less than 98% rating. Even with that, I still go through the feedback comment from other buyers.

Not yet I haven't, no. I backed him into a corner by opening a dispute through eBay. He then agreed to refund the FULL amount (items cost plus shipping) so I'm happy :)

I'm sorry, but where did I ever say this?

I read the feedbacks, and they checked out for the SD card auctions.
