hi,
im relatively new to the digital side of things, i currently own a genius g-shot p510. the problem is that the camera is absolutely horrible under low light conditions!
what i am looking for is a camera preferably in the 3MP and onwards range, some sort of optical zoom, in the 2 - 4x range (more doesnt hurt), small-ish to fit in my pockets (a sony v1 would fit in my pockets snugly, i have big pockets :D), short-ish start up and shot to shot times for those moments that you just cant miss, and finally and most importantly one that will do well in low light conditions (mainly indoors in clubs and party settings where lights arent exactly bright) where shots will be mostly in the 1-5m range.
EDIT: hotshoes arent a concern as i wont be using them.
the camera will also be for general use, shooting scenery and friends outdoors etc (hence the zoom) and occasionally some night scenery.
i have been through most of the site and other posts and some of them have been of some help. i heard the canon a95 is pretty good for low light conditions, however more opinions and choices never hurt ;) i have heard some good things about the slim line of digicams (like the panasonic dmc-fx7), but i like mine preferably with a bit more width for grip.
i have had some limited use of a sony v1 before (friend of mine owns one), i really liked the night shot mode (is this only available on sony digicams?(where everything is in a green shade)), but what i didnt like about it was the slow inbetween shots time :( (mainly due to flash recharging). i will await the v3 reviews with interest as well. i have read, to my dismay, that the canon S1 IS doesnt do very well in low light conditions in a user post (though i cant remember which forum i read it on). i also realise i cant have everything in a compact camera :(
in my location, it is hard to test out the low light capabilities of the cameras as none of the shops open that late and the shops are also so small that the flash would easily fill the whole room! (not very good for simulating real use) and most of the sales people are there just to get you to buy their top of the line model
any suggestions highly appreciated,
cheers for reading all this
