Other than the record time and sensitivety range.... it seems like the 500 is better in taking pictures... is this right? I mean is there any real advantage to paying the extra 50 to get the 600...? I've read that the 600 has longer record times than the 500... is this true? Is it faster, better quality? I'm just so confused haha... thanks.

Don't know if it will help, but I put some test photos online which I took during the week with my IXUS 60/ SD600.

The originals are included, so you can view the full res pics for yourself.

Thanks ^_^
The movie quality is quite good actually, the limitation is no longer in length but in size. Max 1GB :)
At the moment I can't show a sample of my own, because some big oof stepped on my cam in the park yesterday and slightly dented the case, needing repair (Camera was still working great though ;) )

For sample movies check here:

The photos he took do not do really justify the image quality as he had it on Auto-ISO.
I would alsways try and use the lowest ISO setting, so that the noise levels are kept low (or as you can seen in many of my pictures, virtually absent ;) )

The thing that did it for me was the size of the SD600, it is slightly smaller and thinner, fitting more snug in my pockets. And it is a more recent model for the same price. (Or in my case, less)

I hear a lot of people scratching their heads over the smaller sensor in the SD600 as opposed to the SD550, but I don't think you will notice much difference in daily use...
Good luck with your choice, I'm sure you will be happy with either one!

Awesome.. the video quality is what i expected.. more than what i need.. i'm already convinced to buy it haha... found good price for 259 bucks... maybe i'll wait a lil longer to see if it goes down haha...

have you tested it with 2gb memory sticks? I heard they were compatible... just curious... cuz i got a spare 2gb laying around and seeing if i can save myself money by not having to buy 1gb.

Yes, 2 Gig cards will work fine. I think the movie modes are the same with these two cameras.

Those are great pics! I'm impressed that you were able to take such wonderful pictures on a camera that lacks manual controls. How do you find the scene modes on the SD-600?

I just got it and I was dissapointed to find out that it doesn't have shutter priority. I neglected to perform the proper research. I'm thinking about returning the camera and getting a A700, but after seeing what you can get out of this camera, I'm thinking about keeping it...mainly because of its size.
