I am looking for something to offload a SD memory card onto a Portable Harddrive..buying a 256mb stick and one of these seems more economical than buying a couple 1gb sticks. I want to spend around 100 bucks if possible and I dont need a 20 gig like I see alot of them carring, even a 3 or 4 gig would work wonders..anyone know where to get one at this price?

Also does anyone know offhand how many FZ20 hires pictures you can get on a 256mb card??

Each MP takes 1/2 meg of memory max per shot, but usually less. If you shoot outdoors with lots of colors and subjects then it will take more memory. Shots done indoors, at night, or of the sky usually don't have a lot of lighting and/or color, so those shots will take less memory. Once I crammed 290 shots from a 4meg cam onto a 256mb card because most of the shots were done indoors or at night. Sometimes my 4meg shots take more than 2mb when done outdoors with a sunny landscape, so as you can see there is no definite answer to how many shots you can cram onto a certain size card. Settings were at max resolution.

Some Portable MP3 players can be used to store photos directly from card not sure of one that takes SD for $100.

My uncle had a self contained battery powered device I think it was a DVD writer & Player that he used to download photos on to, can not remember the name but I will ask.

But I do not think any of them are under $100

A friend at work has one of these -

He picked it up in the UK for 130 on E-Bay, you may get one, they look a little cheap but he is happy with it.
