View Full Version : memory card saying its full when I only have 3 pics on it-help!!

Hi guys,

I need some help with my memory card, its a 256MB XD, Olympus which Im usin in an Olympus mini-its always been fine but now, as soon as I put photos onto my laptop, it erases them off my camera which I dont want it to do, but acts as though it hasnt erased them cos Ive only got 3 pics left on it now n its saying the card is full!! Does ne1 know what is going on and how I can sort it? Thanks :confused:

Well, if you're sure you've got all your images safely copied to your laptop, you could try using the camera's card format option. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with that model, but most digital cameras have a format option somewhere in the menus.

This will erase everything from the memory card.

Cheers for that advice it worked, glad I didn't to actually take it a camera shop or netin, so much easier gettin help this way! :)

How do you copy the photos from your camera to the computer?

im not sure if this is rily what u mean...but connect the camera to the comp wit ur lead n put em on that way...i had already put the pics onto my comp, then they 'supposedly' deleted themselves off the camera but were somehow usin memory space- ru havin probs gettin urs photos off ur camera onto ur comp??

Pictures don't automatically delete themselves from the card. You shouldn't delete images (or format) while connected to the computer, save those steps for when you are using just the camera. The computer can make changes to your card that result in problems like you saw. Some things can't be fixed by an in-camera reformat, which is why it's important to only delete from your camera.

I recommend using a card reader and removing your camera from the copy step. It's simpler and quicker. But still wait until your card is back in your camera before you delete any files.
