hi all, i have just purchased a new Opteka 500mm f8 telephoto lens for my KM5D. The problem i have is the camera displays a message "no lens attached". Does anyone out there have any info that might help me out. I have looked through the menue on the camera to see if there is anything in there i have to change....i can't find it, if it's there. The T2 mount appears to be the correct one, as it locks into place as if it was a normal lens.......HELP ME PLEASE

I'm having the same problem with my new maxxum 7d and my 500 mm
a guy at ritz told me that there is a way, some setting on the camera will recognize the lens. when i figure it out i'll let ya know
good luck

The lens probably needs to be updated. I just got a sigma 24-70 on eBay that my 7D wouldn't recognise. Contact the manufacturer and ask them if they offer an update for the lens.

I have found out what to do. go to menue and find the "shutter lock ON and OFF--- NO LENS" and turn it off when using the 500 lens.
Thanks to Ronin from Dynax Digital Users Forum

First I would like to thank all for the shutter lock OFF/ON.
I have the 7D, and was wanting to use an old lens which worked great on my Minolta Max 9000. it is a 500 x 800 zoom...
Well firstly I got the no lens attached message and thusly followed the preceding instructions which then allowed the shutter to function.:D
However, I get no picture.. .. Any Idea's ??????
Please disregard as to no picture.... Works..but need to shoot at lower resolution and use tripod....
Thank you

Had just attached KM D5 to my astronomical telescope for the first time (having used a Dynax 7000 previously), set tracking, focused scope, aligned target (Saturn), pressed remote shutter release and arrrgggghhhh. Luckily, near house, quick google, run back, find relevant menu, and spend two hours on a cold UK night filling my memory card.
What a fantastic difference shooting with a digital - instant feedback - and with the anti-shake switched on, automatic multiple image intergration on long exposures.

Nearly all manual operation lenses (such as the AF 500mm f/8 Reflex, any of the TAMRON Adaptall 2 and various others) offer no electrical contact to the camera body ... and as such, the camera "believes" that there is no lens on the front of it, hence the "No LENS ATTACHED " error messsage.
While I cannot answer precisely for the KM5D or the KM7D,
On the SONY α100, Custom Menu 2, it is:
Shutter lock = Off: no lens
On the SONY α700, Custom Menu 2, it is:
Release w/oLens = Enable
To be quite honest, I have found that once you've made this change, there really appears to be no reason to set it back. The camera works fine with either regular AF lenses or MF lenses after that.

since it has no contact it thinks nothing is there..you need to go into the menu and hit the shutter release without lens ok button...
you can use the lens as manual or aperature prio..no auto
