I want to share my bad experience with a new Dimage A2 and Minolta US service center. I am curious if A2 has in particular higher failure rate than other similar models.

Both of my LCD's (viewfinder too!) went completely blank after 2 weeks of use during my learning period. I had to sent almost new A2 to Minolta repair center in NY, and it has been waiting there for repair for over 4 weeks! Their service center is the only one in the US and it seems they don't have spare parts to fix A2's. They have been waiting for 4 weeks just to get some spare part and all they can "guarantee" is up to another 4 weeks of repair time! I am wondering if I am just unlucky or other A2 owners share the same fate.

With all the respect to many possitive reviews I have seen for A2, I will never buy Minolta again because of their service. It's not exactly a cheap camera to get such a poor support during waranty.

My friend... now you let me down !!! I was just looking for minolta service online when I found your note about your experience...:o
It happened to me two days ago... I still have the hope it could be because I use the wrong batteries... I`m going to buy the rigth ones today and try.
I have my camera for two years... and it never happened before, till I use the wrong batteries  - Do you think could be it?
How much did you pay for the service? including shipping...

My Dimage 7hi LCD & View finder died this past weekend. Not completely though, I can still bring up my menu's and I can view pictures on my flash card but I have no image when I want to take a picture. I tried taking a picture by just pointing and shooting and using the flash. The flash went off but no image was on the card, just black.

My thought is that the processor failed or something similar. I'm glad that I found this thread and heard about the service problem. I'll try to take it to someone local (NJ) to see if they can at least diagnose the problem. If not I'll chuck the camera and by something else.

I went with Minolta because I've been using a Minolta SLR for over 25 years and never had a problem with it. I guess their electronic ones are crap.

from what u've described i think it's a CCD sensor problem and not a LCD problem. they had am major problem with CCD sensors produced by sony for their cameras. they also say that the replacement of the ccd is free.
