I am quite new to this site and photography. My wife is expecting and we want a good camera in the home. I looked at all the Powershot A75,85,95 and worried about the possible E18 error. Should this be a concern? Anyways...which camera would you experts suggest between the Canon SD200 or the Nikon coolpix 3200. Any help would be great.

Also is the Canon SD200 prone to the same problem with E18 error or is it just the A series by Canon. Thanks a ton for all your help and advice. :)

I can't tell you too much about the Canon A-series. My daughter has the Coolpix 3200, and she just loves it. It's one of the few point & shoot cameras that has internal memory as well as being able to use an SD card. Of course, it doesn't come with any memory card at all, so you will need to purchase one immediately. It has a focus assist light, and the response times are pretty fast. The colors are pretty good. Although the flash is not too strong, none of the cameras in this category have very powerful flashes. This camera is very small. She carries it at all time in her purse, and it's small enough to fit in a pocket, so it can always be readily available. Plus, I've seen it on sale in retail stores (not on-line) at less than $200 lately.

What I didn't care for: :(
Noisy images in low light
Redeye
Sluggish shot-to-shot performance (after two shots are taken); camera is locked up while camera finishes writing to memory card
Aside from white balance, no manual controls
No exposure information in playback mode
No memory card or rechargeable batteries included

i looked at nik 3100 and 3700 both have similar reviews, it was the canon A75 / 85 for cheap options we liked till that E18 error seems to lots of users with it, and canon deny its a prob.. :(

As an owner of a Coolpix 3700 I must say that it has taken an abundance of fantastic shots of almost everything that I have attempted.. It is neat, small and really easy to use.. The exceptional video mode is something that you may find hard to match on other camera's and the abiltity to hook it up simply via AV leads to a TV and view your images/video's is awesome. IF the camera gives you a green light you can almost be assured of a good shot.

For someone who doesn't have a whole lot of experience with digi cam's and wants to take good shots with minimal effort I highly recommend the camera..

My only gripe with the camera now that I have used and abused it for a LONG time is that it has no manual controls like shutter speed. I still however cannot find a camera that I would replace it with to this day..
