I Have a canon S2 IS for 2 months now. Took maybe 300 pics and 10 clips. Yesterday i discovered a loud scratchy sound when zooming with low speed. Can someone tell me what happend. The lens extends, retracts and focus without a problem. I hear the noise only when zooming in slow mode. It happens in shooting and video mode. I hear the noise in video clips. If there is dirt in the zoom mechanism, how do i get rid of it to make zooming quiet again. Can someone tell me if there is a site where i can get a schema or something how to dismantle the camera and clean it up. I consider myself technically capable in doing that.
I bought the camera via a order/delivery store in my country. In the worst case is it possible to get my money back and look for a camera without extending lenses. Something like a Fuji where everything happens internal.

Please help, cause i begin to dislike cameras with extending parts

The thing with extended parts is that you know its wrong when something about it is awkward. Imagine trying to diagnose a problem with folded lens pathways.

My guess is the Ultrasonic Motor. Maybe misaligned or something? Get it checked out!

Um....don't dismantle the camera..lol. I dunno but these things are best done by a qualified technician.

Hopefully someone who owns an S2 could help you. Probably check with your camera store or Canon. See what the other forum members think about it.

My S2 makes a slight fluttering sound from the motor when I zoom in really fast. It does it sometimes, but other times it doesnt do it. Is that the noise you are talking about?

No, i only hear the noise when i zoom with low speed. Probably there is also noise at fast zoom, but i can't hear it because the sound of the zoommachine is louder than the noise. The noise is something like the grinding of gears which aren't lubricated or like a wheel rotating without lubrication . Not gears slipping. I don't know how maybe they are slipping, because i don't know how big they are. I am a little bit dissapointed, because i paid a lot of money. I could take the Panasonic FZ20 or the Fuji S9500 instead.
