I must be an idiot, but I have a new S2 IS, and I cannot find which menu displays the picture count remaining. I have inserted a 1GB card and set the picture levels at fine and M1 resolution. While I am at it, does anyone have a recommendation as to what I should set my compression and resolution at? I am planning a trip to London, and would like to ensure quality printing, but still want a lot of capacity.

Mine tells me in the function menu when you scroll down to change the resolution size of the image it tells you how many images you will get with the new resolution setting.

How many total pictures can a camera like the S2 typically take before the parts break? 3,000? 5,000? more?

How many total pictures can a camera like the S2 typically take before the parts break? 3,000? 5,000? more?I'm way over 10,000 shots in in 10 months. My mode dial did develop a problem after two months and Canon fixed under warranty in 1-week. I think the shutter is only rated at 10,000 "activations" (similar to most consumer digicams). Also, one dead pixel has shown up.

I am expecting the camera to last at least 3-years...but that's just my guess and what I feel is a reasonable expectation. We'll see...because even though I have a dSLR, I'm keeping the S2 as my back-up...
