I think everyone here who would be in a position to answer expects people who post questions to make at least the slightest effort to read the manual, read the threads and then post a specific question. Start with page 6 of your manual...
If you don't understand the manual and cannot grasp the basic camera controls, then it's the wrong camera for you. Others will help you if you're willing to help yourself. We can't read or understand the manual for you. If you ask a specific question, you will see that you will get responses...so don't be getting down on members for not responding to you just because you asked an impossible question to answer...
Oh, BTW, welcome! :)

I feel you need basic camera knowledge to even understand some of the terms in the manual. I still read mine, even though ive read it when i first got my camera i had no idea what EV was, no idea what ISO was so when i read those things i had no clue what the manual was telling me.
The more you read online in forums and read things about cameras the more you pickup the lingo. The more you understand photography and how it all works. Just hanging around the people that are good at it you will learn.
The modes are different settings of control over the camera. Auto is full camera control, point and click kinda thing. The other modes give you different levels of control.
AV= appature value, you get to chose it
TV= time value, yo get to control it.
M= manual and you get to control everything. It warns you about wrong settings but it will let you take a bad shot.
when i first got my camera i had no idea what EV was, no idea what ISO wasHey, we've all been in that boat...but that's what Google's for...
I'd like to see a little effort from the OP...YKWIM? Especially before he goes dissin' the peeps. ;)
Oh, and BTW, the SD550 does not have Av and Tv modes...so I think you just confused him more...:p

The SD550 is a P&S without many manual controls. I have the SD300 which is smaller but essentially the same camera.
Shoot a lot of photos. Start in Auto mode and then as you get a little comfortable with what your camera can do, shoot in the various scene modes that are available. That's good for quickly moving objects (kids and pets), or landscapes, or people.
After that you can use manual mode adjusting the ISO and White balance to your particular shot. Play with the macro mode to shoot very close objects.
Shoot a lot of photos.
In the grand scheme of things, that camera doesn't have too many things for you to play with. You can't hurt anything, so just shoot a lot of photos.

PS - Welcome. As others have said, specific questions will get answered faster than vague ones.
