I have a Nikon D50 and a 55-200 lens, plus the shorter one that came with it. My question is this...
I take lots of bird pictures and was wondering if the Nikon 70-300 would zoom in better, significantly better, than the 55-200 (which does a very good job). I would appreciate any information on this.:)

assuming you have the 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor lens...
i'd consider the 80-200mm f/2.8D ED AF Zoom-Nikkor lens to be more appropo due to it's brighter lens, and faster aperature to freeze flight of these aerial wonders.

The Nikkor 70-300 ED ($300) would give you more reach, but for about half that price the Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro ($184) would do just as well, and add a 1:2 macro capabiity as well. The least expensive of this group is the Nikkor 70-300 G ($139), but the image quality, is not up to par with the other two.

In my opinion the Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro would serve you best if you are on a budget.
