Does anyone have this lens? I have been looking for user reviews, but I guess it's too early -- the item has not been out long. For me, the focal length range and the f/2.8 IS would make it an ideal walk around lense. If price/quality means anything, this might be a nice lens. But, it might only be another consumer lens.

Haven't seen one yet but the specs look good (cross fingers).

Interestingly enough I was having a hard time deciding between this lens, the Canon 24-7mm f2.8, and Canon 24-105 f4 IS. I havent seen any reviews for it but assumed it would be a good lens. In the end I decided to go with the 24-70 since it seemed to have the better IQ, less barrel distortion/pin cushion and vignetting than the 24-105. Getting a good copy seemed pretty hit or miss according to the reviews I was reading. I want to migrate to a full frame camera at some point and figured I would save myself some hassle by avoiding altogether since it wont work on a full frame camera. I will miss the IS and extra range but at least I have another stop of light/DOF to play with.

I was having the same decision problem. I used a 24-70 f/2.8L and liked it, but it was just too big for me. But the picture quality was outstanding. I have a 24-105 4L in "repair." However, the 17-55 f/2.8L IS would really fit the bill for me. Today I called a retailer where I do some business, and asked him about the lens, if it is a good lens or just a faster 17-85 IS. He said the 17-55 is a professional quality lens with good glass. He saw it at a trade show and likes it. So.....decicisons, decisions, decisions....
