I am not particular on my CF cards but stick with the major names of course but explain this deal to me please:

2 GB CF Sandisk after $5.00 savings 64.99

1 GB CF Sandisk after $40.00 savings 69.99

1 GB CF Ultra II Sandisk after $55.00 savings $79.99

1 GB CF Extreme III Sandisk after $30.00 savings 99.99

These are all Sandisk. Are some CF cards special in some way and they write faster which is why some are cheaper than others? I understand they do different promotions I guess which is why you can get a 2 GB for the same price nearly as a 1 GB. Other than being more pricey like the Ultra and Extreme do they have newer technology that will write pics faster than some of the others?

If so, are the Ultra and Extreme CF cards worth the extra $20-$30 in this case?

Thanks.

very few cameras are able to write fast enough take advantage of the higher speeds of the newer cards... you will probably see no difference in camera performance. Depending on your card reader and computer you might see an improvement in download times.

The Extreme III has a lifetime replacement warranty which may be of use to some.

What britkev said is right. To be more specific...

A fast card will be able to download pictures faster if either your camera or card reader has USB 2. Some cameras, including all DSLRs will use high speed cards to improve burst performance. This is important if you are shooting sports, and rarely important otherwise. Some cameras with good video capabilities will have better performance with high speed cards. Jeff usually notes these in his reviews.

For most purposes, there is no difference between high and low speed cards.

The Extreme IIIs really rip off the card reader. SD cards are even quicker than CF.
