Ok this sounds really stupid, and I wasn't sure where to post this, but are any of you users, a member of another forum also?

I absolutely LOVE this site and forum, but always say "more is better", so why not learn from as many as possible?

And.... if I do join another forum, would it be dumb, tacky, whatever to register under the same name?

Please give advice!

some of the novel items on another forum, more focused on my particular camera manufacturer selection, I was not very impressed with the way it was... well, participated in (trying to be diplomatic, here). There seemed to be a lack of formality in it, to the point where... it was kind of irritating reading. :( I'm not into sniping and that kind of thing. I think it misses the point, entirely. I find humor, camaraderie, supportive attitudes and a modicum of wit makes reading a lot more fun. We certainly are not being paid to be here. It's all volunteer and that may be why it seems a lot more sincere.

But... personally, I say also say "GO... spread your wings... explore and see the world. See ya when you get back."

After ten years of globe trotting with Uncle Sam's Canoe Club, I found my way home, again, do not want to leave. The Midwest is my world! It still was worth the trip. LOL :D

I did a brief browsing around to take a look at other forums. DCRP has the best format (and members, lol. and code of conduct, might i also add) of them all. Just wondered if any one else is registered on more than one forum out there, and I'm not the only one around here. ?!?!?

Yes, I'm registered on multiple photo forums, and use them for different purposes. I like coming here for general information, and participation in a community of sorts.

I use DPReview for camera comparisons and specific searches since they have a large database of user comments. I also am a member of the PopPhoto forums, as well as Photography-on-the.net, and Steves-Digicams.

:) I am also a member of Steve's Digicams forum which I visit but only post occasionally.I enjoy this forum, the presentation is clear, the posts are often entertaining, and the standard of knowledge is high and generally given in good spirit.I joined originally no doubt like many because I found Jeff's reviews clearly written and helpful when considering a camera change and explored the rest of the site from there eventually reaching the forums.I am registered with Steve's Digicams under the same name.Dont see why you cant use the same name on another forum as I do-it wouldn't be dumb or tacky in my view.

The way I look at it, is that if my question wasn't answered, I could ask it on another forum. But didn't know if people using the same forums would see my question several times out there and get annoyed, that's why I asked about the same name on dif forums.

Another 10 year canoe crew vet? 8 years, and both oceans, on this side. 3 years out of Norfolk on the Med rotation and 5 years in and out of WestPac mostly in the pinapple rotation then, as a change of pace, 2 years on a 95 foot SAR crew in the USCG.

Looks like you followed the old saying... "When I get out of the Navy I plan to drag an anchor across the country, and when someone asks me, what's that I'm draggin'... that's where I'll settle down".;)

I cruise many of the primary digital photography sites, but find Rob Galbraiths website generally ahead of the curve, good reading, and informative. Occasionally I drop into the Nikonians to get their bent as well, as it is a good place for everything Nikon. I've been participating here for quite a while and DCRP has come through as the best of the discussion and information sites thanks to Jeffs progressive organization and guiding moderation, so kudos to Jeff and the crew. Now I think I almost understand everything I know about photography.:D

George,

I also did both ponds... skipped the orient for more domestic ports, though. My footprints are on top of Notre Dame and the Awful Tower, the Vatican and the Colliseum, the Queen's House and her love boat in Portsmouth. I tripped over the Arctic Circle and bumped my "blue-nose", then moored in the fjord next to Tromso, Norway. Ice Cold takes on a new meaning up that way, for sure. Then we ran a trio of cuts through that yellow-fever ridden ditch in Panama and made a port call in Cartegena, Colombia.

All in all, an eye-opening experience, during the formative years of my life. There's no place like home... there's no place like... click click click (oh, sorry, I was taking photos... what did you think I was doing? Remember where we are, will ya? I don't have my red shoes on and... were not in Kansas, anymore!)

Through my travels, I gained a much deeper appreciation of what we have in the good old US of A. It would take a lot of convincing to change this old boy's viewpoint... and probably not worth the effort.

God Bless America!

Point made.

For clarification, I did mean posting to different sites, not different forums in the same site.

Thanks to all of you for input!

I think this place stands on its own merit and nobody would think less of you. I would find it sort of wierd to only surf this one site if you're into photography enough.

Fredmiranda seems to be very pro-oriented with diehard faithfuls. Tough to display your ignorance too much among them.

POTN is very (sometimes too) active, but a lot of real pros and highly experienced willing to help a sincere ameture. Much higher population.

Some of the others I've seen have poor response or have immature members and poor moderation, however there's a lot out there so surely there's some others worth joining.

I really like the down-home pace and familiar faces around here. Sort of like a small town.

Me, I like keeping different names, but would never hide my identity on a PM basis. Who knows if some knucklhead makes you uncomfortable then follows you around.

One prolific past member here got very bent out of shape when a newbie posted the same queries on 2 sites. Got quite offensive. She's gone now and I think most others here are reasonable (with the exception of one screwball who drops in once a month or so generally offending everyone - but maybe he's been banned).

Hope that helps!

What site does STLPF stand for?

Should I change my name to "another stupid question"?

Of course not. Forums aren't exclusive clubs. I post on more than this forum and use the same name on all and it happens to be the name my parents gave me.

I'm a very new member to this forum but I've been reading the posts for about a month now. I'd been to a few other photo forums before this one as well as forums for other subjects. My first impression of this site was almost completely NEGATIVE. People were jumping down "newbies" throats for asking simple questions. I went right back to my other forums, but kept coming back to this site. Since I am new to DSLR cameras, more was better, even if I had to put up with some BS. It didn't take me long to realize that my negative opinion of this site was based on a few select individuals. Since then, my opinion has changed and I feel that this site is worth visiting. There are a lot of people here that are willing to help you.

**Edited** I use the same (or very similar) name at all the forums I frequent.

I use this name at DPR (but never post anymore). The only other forums I visit are Nikonians (frequently), and Fred Miranda once in awhile.
