Question about timing for DSC-P100

When I take a picture (in automatic mode) of a moving object (like a kitten), there seems to be an unnecessary delay between when I press the shutter and when the image is captured. For example, if I take the picture while the kitten is looking at me, the picture that comes up shows her head already turned away. Is there a setting that I should adjust to correct this delay?
