My Wife and I were going on Holidays to the Caribbean, and although I use Professional Cameras in my work, my Wife decided that they were to big to take on Holidays and purchased a small Digital Camera. She purchased the Samsung V800 which on the first appearance seemed to be a lovely Camera, however, in the lovely bright sunshine of the Caribbean we discovered one major ommission - NO VIEWFINDER - and as you cannot see anything through the LCD Screen in Sunshine, how the heck can we take Photographs, it was very much a case of pointing the Camera and take pot luck, and if it did not come out the first time do the same again.
What fantastic brains decided that a Camera did not need a viewfinder, the write-up on this Camera by Samsung says that it is ideal for people used to video, but at least with Video Cameras, Domestic and Professional as well as an LCD flip-out screen they will have a viewfinder,to enable you to shoot in all conditions. I think that all Samsung designers live in the twilight zone!!!!!
Apart from that, it is a lovely Camera, but unfortunately this is a major fault design and will be heading back to the retailer A.S.A.P.

it's not uncommon for manufacturers to leave the viewfinder off of small digicams nowadays. while they are useful from time to time, the viewfinder on some of these cameras are painfully small to look through and last time i checked, they usually don't show 100% of the frame which makes composing difficult.

Viewfinders on compact digital cameras tend to mask hideous paralax errors. Hence, I prefer the S1/S2 sollution of an EVF viewfinder or a hand cupped around the LCD to eliminate excess light.

I hate EVFs - hope they never replace an OVF for serious SLRs.:(
