I recently purchased two adapters for my S2. 52mm and 58mm. They have NO BRAND NAME! I got both for about the price of one LensMate Adapter. They too are "silver" aluminum. They both just say:
FOR Canon S2 52mm, or ... 58mm.
They seem quite nice.
My advice, skip the brand name. Lensmate is great I'm sure, but not at twice the cost.
Mine also came with a UV filter, and a lenscap! One even had the glare hood included. (also silver).
All in all, search the web before settling for the crappy canon adapter or even the less expensive (and better looking) Lensmate adapters.
Good luck!
Thanks for showing me the way BowerR64!

I havnt tried the 58 no name and all the canon stuff is plastic. They look better but are even more then the lensmate. I do like the looks of the lensmate alot. Ill probobly get a few more of the cheap ones here soon.
Check out this cool lens i found! its my favorite so far.

Are you talking about the tube you screw onto the camera or are you talking about an adapter lens? If you're referring to the tube, of course a generic will perform the same as a name brand...it's just metal or plastic with threads.
If you're talking about the add on lenses, then there's no difference...if you're blind.

I got in this one called a "Bower" and it kinda sucks. Its a 58mm but its to short so it has a 58-58mm extension ring. If you try it without the ring it will jam the stock lens and error 18. I tried it and thats what it did to mine. The extension ring is not the same diamiter as the adapter tube, its a bit small so it looks funny.

Just randomly searching e-bay. Search "telephoto" and then search threw and bid. Some are better then others, so far this is the best one ive got. It has the best quality and since its a double lens i can mount it and leave it on the adapter. Its kinda big but it will take up less space then 2 seperate lenses. My main focus is on the telephoto if the wide looks good thats a bonus.
I need to get a bunch of step rings and adapters now to put all the lenses on.

A few weeks ago i got in this one 58mm adapter, it was the cheapest 58mm on e-bay. WHen i got it new out of the box it fit kinda loose. After i painted it white it kinda snugged up a little. The maker of the adapter was "Bower" (no relation...heh) so far that adapter is my LEAST favorite.
It came as 2 parts. First was the adapter and then a 58-58mm adapter ring. I wondered what the adapter ring was for till i tried the adapter without the ring. My S2 jammed and gave an E18 error. The adapter is to short for the S2 at full zoom. WHen i zoomed in the lens hit the end of the converter and locked up. I had to remove the adapter and reboot the camera after my panic attack.
So ive tried the cheap 52mm from "fotodiox_gear" and the lensmate 58mm, then i tried the cheap 58mm made by Bower. I have a 52mm all black "raynox" comming i should get it monday.
The 52mm i got came with the lens hood and the lens cap. I recomend that one for anyone wanting to add attachments to their camera. If you just want somthing that looks good and protects the lens ide recomend the 52mm adapter with the lens hood and a 3 pack filter kit. Ide use the PL filter and the hood. This will protect the lens, add some reflection filter and help for lens flare with the hood. It will also look cool and the lenses and hood will match the camera body nicly.
If you want a teleconverter ide probobly recomend the lensmate 58mm and the canon DC58B 1.5X. Ive never used it but i plan on getting one soon. Ill probobly get it next month just to compair to the other teleconverters i have.
