well after my arms about fell off on the weekend i will be requiring a monopod, the 681 seems in my budget and the manfrotto 488 head will likley accompany it....however with weedings coming b4 more sports events i may get the tripod first//
anyway. is there a QR head that would both work on the monopod and tripod without having to buy two headds?
was likely going to get eh manfrotto 190bpro, but considering the 3021BN for aoubt $150??
thanks again

I have the 3021N tripod ($149.00) and the 682 monopod (w/ hidden tripod foot  )($85.00). I can interchange the heads on both of them with no problem. The monopod has a 1/4" stud and the large 3/8" threaded ring, which is spring loaded around the 1/4" one, so it will drop down to allow you to quickly accomodate 1/4" heads and camera mounting holes.
I currently use the QR grip-action ball head (model 3265) ($89.00) on the 682 monopod and the 486RC2 Compact Ball Head with RCS2 (Quick Release)($64.00) on the 3021N, but either will swap.
For my Slik Mini-tripod ($29.00) I just use the 3299 QR adapter ($29.00) on it... with nothing other than its own build in tilt-head. That offers a quck snap it for table top stuff and doesn't raise the camera anymore than the width of the adapter... about 1/2".
Having the variety of different tripod heads is hard to appreciate until you have them. I like the ability to configure. :D
Good luck... and take a good look at the 682... you may just like its optional three legs foot over the 681, which is just the pole itself.
