Hey there,

Just hoping you can help me out. Last night I dropped my camera (which luckily was in its leather case). The camera appears to be functioning perfectly but I just wanted to check something. So if you have an Ixus 700 can you perform the following test for me? That'd be so helpful :

Listen to the zoom 'in' sound
Listen to the zoom 'out' sound

Does the zooming out action seem 'smoother' and less 'clunky' than the zooming in? When I zoom it seems a little clunky, but I'm fairly certain that this is a trait of the camera (and not due to damage from dropping it!).

Cheers, Andrew.

Well I don't know about the sd500, but I have the sd550 and the zoom in is definitely less smooth than the zoom out. Don't know if I'd describe it as clunky, but it definitely isn't as smooth... I guess I could say that it is more clunky :D

Hope this helps

Andrew,

I can't say for sure that it's normal, but I've owned two SD500s (first one was lost/stolen) and both have made kind of a lumpy grinding sound when they zoom in tight and a more pleasant steady whine when zooming out. With the first one, I thought perhaps something was wrong, but when the second one did the same thing, I stopped worrying.

Hope this helps. -Phil

Andrew, just checked mine(partners) and it is a you described - zooming out smooth but zooming in has a 'notchy clicking sound'. ......max
