View Full Version : Store Signs

Store signs have a language all their own ("sign language"). For instance, they sprinkle quote marks everywhere but in the right place and think that the plural takes an apostrophe. But that's another story. These are a few goofy Toronto signs.

It's a short day at this restaurant.

Note that this porn theater has rented their original box office to a Korean dress shop, which apparently doesn't mind the sleaze. Note that the sign on the right says that the theater also sells car batteries. Now that's what I call full-service porn.

This is obviously a restaurant that's serious about its soup. As for its English, well...

My exact sentiments about most cell phone users.

I never sausage a name!

Not a store sign, but sort of a sign on a store. If we give him recognition, will he stop vandalizing people's walls? Will he put the apostrophe back into "I'm"? Will he allow
more space for that last line?
Regards,
Bill :p

Those are great Bill!!! How much soup do you think they really sell!?
I'm glad to see this thread. I have one but didn't know where to put it.
I would say that this would happen only in America but these days I'm not so sure! Taken at the entrance to Chinatown in Washington DC.

avi777,
I guess, like me, you are not American. A Wiener is a type of sausage (strictly speaking from Vienna - Wien in German). In the USA, I think it's a pretty general term for any sort of pork sausage. The humour is not in Bill's photo - but in the caption - a bit of English word play.
Substitute the same sounding phrase "saw such" for "sausage" in the caption of a store named "Wieners" and you're there.
If you are a Yank, living in India and you do know what a Wiener is- then just think of me as a fool. My family do... why should you be any different?

LOL, I guess everybody knows what a wiener is.
Here are two from Amsterdam that I think are funny to most every one.

Man I wish I was back in Oklahoma right now!! I started my bachelor party in the Bricktown Hooters. By the end of the night I was the designated driver. That's life.

Downtown Chicago. This isn't a store sign, but I like it. Maybe because I'm a Romanian also...;)

Bullitt.. Proof that the camera (even a digital one) never lies !!
Hmmm. Is this a room with men barbers, a room where men get a haircut, or a room where men barbers cut mens' hair?

Here's another funny one (to me, at least).
It's a "Kingdom"! :D A sovereign sausage state in the middle of Lambert airport?
I went up to the counter and requested an audience with His Majesty, the sausage king. I should have taken a picture of the way they looked at me...

Was funny to me, too. I laughed right out loud (for real)

Typical of Evanston, WY, USA. Family entertainment wouldn't be complete without the drive-up liquor!

Not quite a "store" sign but a sign nonetheless:
