I'm a huge canon fan, the only digi i've ever owned is A75 and it's been outstanding, but it's time for more compact and a newer camera.

I'm skeptical about the SD700 for a couple reasons, and I haven't found many reviews on either camera anywhere, can anyone help me out with a collection of sample images from the two cameras?

Nikon is 50$ cheaper (CAN) and 8 megapixel versus canon's 6 megapixel.
Both have image stabilizer
Nikon has a best shot selector
Canon zoom is 4x optical, Nikon's is 3.5
Canon is slightly in measurements, so slightly more compact.

I need to decide on a camera before the end of april since i'm off to Europe, and any help would greatly be appreciated. I think I've hit up all the review sites on teh entire web right now, so if anyone has some images shot with each camera or some personal experience with either it'd be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Siggy

i am planning on buying the sd700 whenever that comes out (hopefully on the 14th). i wish i knew more about the "image stabilizer" though. i understand that some other cameras that has the image stabilizer turned on, you have to shoot at lower megapixels. such as the Olympus Stylus 800. remember, more megapixels doesn't necessary mean better pictures. here are some sample pictures of the sd700...

Hi, I am also hoping for a 14th release, taking off on the 29th. Thanks for the link, had already found those....I would much rather base my choice off of a customer's samples.

After researching the two more closely, my only concern is the inability to adjust the shutter speed on either camera for night shots. I realize this is often the case with compact cameras in general.....the nikon allows for aperature adjustment apparently though...where shutter speed is adjusted automatically based on your selection.

I'm fairly certain you can shoot at full megapixels when using the stabilizer on the canon and nikon, I've read a few reviews so far (just no sample images) and nothing was mentioned to make me think otherwise.

I got my 2 gig high speed Sd card just sitting here waiting for the release! A lot of stores offer 15 day return no questions on these cameras, so I figure i'll try it out myself and maybe pickup the nikon as well and compare.

I agree more megapixels doesn't mean better quality for sure! 60% of the reason I'd buy canon again is for the lens.
