View Full Version : Dream Camera too "futuristic" for a possible release?

I've been looking and looking and I guess the below specs don't match any cameras that are out there. If anyone knows of any, let me know:

- Compact camera (I consider anything Canon G5-ish size or smaller)
- At least 5 megapixel
- More than 3X optical zoom
- SD memory (I may opt for CF, but I believe SD is going to be the dominant format in the near future)
- Dual memory card slots
- Movie mode
- Flip-out LCD screen
- would be nice to accept different battery types
- remote control capable

Based on my extensive research, the closest a camera has gotten to this was the Samsung Digimax V50, but it only had a 3X zoom and it got really bad reviews. I know they have higher zoom cameras out too (just look at what Pentax has put out). Anyone have a guess on how long it will be before a camera of these specs is released? I was hoping one was announced at Photokina, but there wasn't any...

even if SD memory becomes dominant in the near future (which i kind of find hard to believe), i don't think support for CF cards will suffer enough to make it inconvenient for those who use them. by the time CF cards become obsolete, i think there will probably be a far better memory solution than what is available out there today anyway.

the ability to use different kinds of memory and batteries would be a huge plus, but, unless you happen to have a lot of different kinds around already, i don't think a lack of some of these features should hold you back from getting an otherwise good camera. :)

I agree with hai.

What ever the memory format, as long there is a major camera maker supporting it, there should be enough supply/demand to last for a long long time before becoming obsolete.

I own a Oly C-770UZ and a Oly mju-400 which uses xD cards, even more rare than CF, SD or MemoryStick. A little bit more expensive, but not a problem to buy from major camera retailers.

The only problem I see is that you'll be missing many opportunities to capture those special moments in life. My suggestion is to get a decent digital camera that suit your needs (never mind the specs/brand) and shoot away, remember you don't have to pay for the film.
