The search is narrowed down to these three because of rebates and sales...I am looking for a cam that will point and shoot as I am a newbie that is a quick learner..( i dont want to invest then become bored)I will do a lot of low light indoor shots with subjects that range btwn ages 4 and 10 yrs old..I will be doing outdoor sports games as well..maybe will want some pics to enlarge to 8x10.but mostly 4x6 at this point..knowing my dispostion (obessive compulsive) god knows where i may end up with photgraphy..but i need a starting place..that is a bit more than point and shoot image and image stablization is very important to me as is no red eye..low light shooting and as i learn i want a lil control..I hope some one out there will be willing to read this and comment..I am trying to be visonary about my cam puirchase..thanks..OK here are the cams I choose..FujiS9000..( on sale for 401.00 after rebate) Panasonic FZ27 which is on sale for 323.00..or Sony H1 which is going for 319.00..please rate these deals which is the best

Or other Fuji's-- the legendary F10/11/30 series, or the s5200 if you need a longer zoom. They're the ones for low light.

The Kodak P-880 is an excellent wide angle (24mm) camera, but only has 5X optical zoom, which is far less than any of the other cameras you have listed.

Hope you understand you MUST use a flash indoor and low-light may fail to produce focused images in many cases

At anything below 350, the H1 is a great buy. I can vouch for that. It's a good buy for sure. Pictures are great, good IS, good zoom, can attach additional lens, comes with all the accessories you need (i got what I needed ). You can check out some of the pics I took with it - they are almost all around the photogallery. check out the Wildlife thread, and the churches thread, also one in the moon thread. I had to compress the pics a lil to post them here. Anyway, the H1 would be my choice......
Did I forget to mention that the video is good too?

I'll second that. I think any of these fuji's will meet most the requirements you gave and are cheaper and lighter than the S9000. None of them have IS but the S9000 has anti-blur and maybe the S5200 does, also.

well, the FZ7 is not any good in any kind of low light without flash.
The new Canon S3 IS, Sony H2 will be quite a bit better in that respect I think, seeing how the other 6mp models from sony and canon have improved in iSO 200 and 400 performance. So, if you need no flash low light performance, the best will be the S9000 (but its photos will need some post process sharpening at times), and probably the yet untested S3 IS and H2.

:p What to do what to do....
I hope you all are laughing with me.As I anx over what cam to buy..I go all over the universe of digital cams in the windmills of my mind...now I'm thinking...why not start out with a low end SLR ? My experiance is with film camsI have a Cannon AE1 from the mid 80s I love that cam...I have been doing a lot of reading here in the wonderful forum and learning from your responses and experiances.Origionaly I was thinking of Fuji S900, S5200...Cannon S2..Lumix ...the Sony H1..and a few other fantabulas cams..then I began to notice the SLRs pricing wasnt that much more and I got to thinking ...( uh O in trouble now)..I want something I can live with for a few years ..that I can do a lil expense control with ..I know from all the comments I've read that nothing compares to SLR and I guess I'm feeling lost in a big ole candy store here..and Uncle merci beau coup for the french AD on the CannonS3 I enjoyed it...for the moment I will go back to considering a bit more and I Look for more of your ideas to show up in my thread..I thank you in advance...:p

D-SLR: Digital Rebel XT (EOS-350D)

Consumer: Panasonic FZ-5/7, Fujifilm S9000, Canon S3-IS seems to be in a close race. Panasonic is smaller, Fujifilm can take good low light, and Canon is a good all around.

I am seriously considering the Cannon S2 ...is the Cannon S3 worth the extra money...from what I'vr read and looked at in pics and movies modes this seems to be the one that is the best all around bang for the buck..I really want to buy a cam today...seriously though , what do you think about the two models S2 vs S3..I watched a lil movie clip on the guy doing engine mount repairs for more horse power..the movie mode was great the pics were so detailed and the color was fab too..I can have a shaky hand I remember when camcorders first came out and my movies were blurred and crappy..i got a image stabilization asap and wow what a diff so i know what image stab translates intoand knowing me I should make image stability a must on the cam i buy as well as it is hard for me to be still anyway I'm almost embarresed by now going on and on so must about my cam decison but to be honest I learn so much from you guys here and it helps to have the opinons I learned it is a good thing to attempt to learn from others too .thank you all so very much...deb:p

My brain hurts:eek: I have read so much here on this site..geez I kinda feel like Jeffs mom..Thanks Jeff for your very informative and matter of fact style of reporting the fact..and thabks to every one else for the 2 cents worth of fantabulas opinions...I needed a base of information to even question as to what cam to buy but i figured it out ( my needs and all cam wise)I think this site here with its reviews and down to earth Forum mixture of Photography Pros and Amataures Is the BEST
