Thanks for starting us out, Zdzislaw. Yeah, I should be in bed, too--or out photographing some of the graffiti in my town by night (after all, that's when it's always drawn, right?). Yours looks interestingly pastel--the artists left their spray cans behind, I see :p
. It might be nice if posters would indicate where they took the picture and on what kind of structure it is found, too.

Best wishes.

Thanks for starting the graffitti thread, and very nice post Zd, looking forward to seeing lots more from all over the world... There's not much if any in the country but will keep my eyes open for some cool art...

Keep them coming...

I am sure you are right Glenn but you take 20-25 years off me right now and you could stick me almost anywhere in this 'ol world...

Geez, is there a universal code for graffiti artists? They look like they're saying (or not saying) exactly the same thing as the artists here in Japan. Gotta get out and capture some here!

To tell the truth I not so understand in graffiti. But something in it is... Mysterious...

Let's say someone shot a great photo of a graffiti. Who deserves most credit, the graf-artist or the photographer?

zdzislaw
04-19-2006, 01:40 AM
tim11,
the one who makes more money out of it...(year 2006),
graffiti costs money, cameras come for free,(hospitals covered by medicare)
(what have i done ???!!!)
ok, just assume...
kind regards

I think the artist does in a way. There are different kinds of graffiti. The stuff kids do that make a place look like crap but the photo is great the the photographer should get the credit but the stuff that make a dark scary place feel alive then the artist should be the one who gets the credit. Here (http://penz-world.com/graffiti.htm) are some in places where it is legal or where it brings some life to an otherwise dark place.

Cameras come for free? Medicare? huh uh.. Providing they can find you a ward and not having to leave you in the bloody ambo for 24 hours... in Sydney at any rate.
Seriously now
I understand what you meant PENZ. However, if graffiti is a theme in a photo competition, the judges will surely have a hard time.

The wall is now all but completely gone. This is in Potzdamer Platz, at the heart of Berlin, where once the wall divided the city. A few sections have been put back as a reminder of times past.

Glenn Kennedy
04-30-2006, 02:19 AM
Out to the east of the city, a section of the Wall has been restored. When it was there "for real" it was the west side that had the grafitti. Here, the restored section (about 1.4 km) is painted on the East side (cos the west side faces onto the river and you wouldn't see the grafitti).

Even though you know you can walk past it and through it and round it, it symbolises a grim time for a major city at the heart of Europe.

Wow, Glenn, does that bring back memories. I was only 8 when we moved away from Berlin. But I remember seeing the Wall, the guard towers, the cemetery of people who tried to cross ...

Someday I will return, how strange it will be to see it just a museum piece now.

I think one of my favourite images from the Berlin wall. As I sit here I can see the "genuine" bit of the wall I bought for a few Deutsch Marks on my first visit to that city in (I think) 1993.

Runic graffiti in a 11th-12th century village church on Öland island (http://www.ekerumssmedja.se/fotogalleri-oland/index.html), Sweden. Looks like it says "ArlifR smiğ", which would translate to "Arleifur the smith". I guess he thought the sermon was boring...
