Looks great I wonder how well the S2IS could be used in astro photography.
Since it has the ability to add lenses then I wonder as well if you could attach it to a good telescope?

They look good, what settings did you use? Are these on a tripod? are you using a telephoto lens? digital zoom?

Thanks very much :) I only used the built-in optical zoom with the following Exif

Aperture f/4
Shutter speed 1/160
Iso 50

Manual focus , tripod mounted and highest image quality so I can crop the image.

God bless,
Daniel

Trying to keep track on how the moon's view changed from last night :) - If schedule and weather permits, I'll try to keep track till it reaches full moon :)

With digital zoom

Optical zoom only then cropped ( I think I like this better as the details are better rendered with lesser distortion and artifacts)

You could try to attach it to a telescope but it may not be worth the trouble. You would need an adapter of some sort which may not be easy to get or to fashion. The 15 second maximum exposure limit is another factor. Background noise will be a factor. The ISO max of 400 which is noisy will also limit things. Best to stick with the TC-DC58B combo and do solar (with appropriate solar filter) and moon shots.

Daniel - Great moon shots.

I have several astronomical telescopes. When I get in the mood I will see what I can do and will post results good or otherwise here.

It won't be a factor. The S2 IS would do great hooked up to a telescope. The pics I took below are from a Canon A75 held up to the telescope eyepiece. I have pics of Jupiter, mars and Saturn taken with my A75 that I will post when I get back from work tonight.

Not trying to start anything but the "A75" moon shots were actually taken last August with a Canon A60 - at least according to the Exif. Good work in any case.

Some of my first shots of the moon through a telescope, way back in my early film days, were taken by holding a Pentax Spotmatic SLR up to the eyepiece of an Edmunds 4.25" reflector telescope. I developed the film (B&W) myself.

Here's the best I could do. Taken tonight through clouds with the Canon Teleconverter lens on my S2 IS. Shot was handheld.

What iso setting did you use? Or was it the Teleconverter that caused the blotches/noise in the black are? But still an awesome shot.

ISO 50. Blotches are from trying to process out hazy area that were clouds. I was in a hurry to get it to a friend who just got his new S2 and he wants to try some moon shots.

Nice shot!

I added a little bit of sharpening and contrast to see what it might look like with the detail brought out a little. What do you think?

Thanks!

How do you do that? what program and stuff?I use Paint Shop Pro X.

I've tried Photo Shop CS2 and found it way too expensive and way too complex...it's designed for professional photo finishing. I've also tried free stuff like GIMP, which has such a bare-bones interface, that figuring out how to anything (unless you are a super-geek) takes way too long. I’ve also tried many, many other editing programs.

I find that Paint Shop Pro gives my all of the power of Photoshop (although Photoshop "actions" are still superior to Paint Shop's "scripts") and even uses almost all Photoshop plug-ins. It’s also much easier to use. And it cost less than one sixth the price. So, I think it’s a no-brainer. There's even a free trial...and there's also a $20.00 off promotion going on...

What about Adobe? thats what i have but im not sure how to use it to adjust images. Ive read alot of people use "Dodge and burn" but i cant really figure out what to do. I have a poor eye when it comes to images, composing a shot and then what to do to it after is somthing i just dont have the eye for.

I don't care for their stuff at all...others swear by it...
